Tadweer Concludes Environmental Awareness Campaign in Shopping Malls across Abu Dhabi

Initiative Aimed to Cultivate Culture of Sustainability and Importance of Appropriate Waste Disposal.

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 31 August, 2014 - The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi (Tadweer) has concluded an environmental awareness campaign it organised in partnership with Emirates Foundation's Takatof Programme for Social Volunteering targeting shopping centers and malls in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. 

The campaign which ran for three days starting August 28 aimed to raise awareness on the importance of cleanliness and maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the city. With a focus on creating a healthy environment in the emirate, the initiative educated people on best practices in the segregation of common household waste. The campaign activities also highlighted hazards of random waste disposal and the benefits of waste reduction, reuse and recycling.

Eng. Hani Hossni, Strategy & Business Development acting Executive Director at Tadweer, said: 'This campaign came as part of Tadweer's priority to develop and implement awareness programs that highlight the three R's of waste management. Through such initiatives, we aim to foster community engagement and promote sound health practices among all segments of society. In enhancing public health and safety standards, we are looking to create an enabling environment that supports our long-term economic and sustainability goals. Our proactive steps will also ensure that our people in the emirate remain protected from potential threats of communicable diseases.'

The campaign included thought sessions and dialogue, quiz competitions and other educational activities that engaged key decision makers and visitors to leading malls in the Emirate's including Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi Mall, Bawabat Al Sharq Mall, Mushrif Mall, Deerfields Mall, Jimi Mall, Bawadi Mall, Al Ain Mall and Ruwais Mall. Mementoes and prizes were also distributed to the winners of competitions and activities.

Maitha Al Habsi, Chief Programme Officer at the Emirates Foundation said: 'Safeguarding our unique environment by teaching our young people to treat waste responsibly, is a critical step towards the sustainable goals of Abu Dhabi. This initiative, led by Tadweer, and supported by our volunteers has helped to instill a culture of responsible waste management across Abu Dhabi – particularly among our younger generations, who hold the key to our future.”
