Dubai Public Library's summer programme records strong interest from community members

Dubai, UAE; August, 2014: The Dubai Public Library (DPL), owned and managed by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, recorded strong community interest for its annual summer programme.

Held under the theme, 'Our Summer is Arts and Culture,' the summer programme placed an emphasis on the social and personal development of children, through workshops, hands-on activities, and site visits to let attractions in Dubai.

In all, Dubai Public Library hosted over 125 workshops and 12 site visits over the course of the summer.

Marking the culmination of the annual programme, Dubai Public Library presented participants with certificates for their efforts and showcased their projects, as part of the glittering closing ceremony.

Abdulrahman Al Ibrahim, Head of Dubai Public Library, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: "The success of the Dubai Public Library is a testament to the role of these community spaces in catapulting the personal, social, and professional development of young ones, enabling them to obtain all the skills they need to truly support the growth of our glorious nation.

"We would like to thank the children and their parents, our partners, and the various government entities, whose efforts enabled us to mark the most successful edition of the summer programme yet."

As part of the programme, the participants enjoyed a wide spectrum of activities surrounding robotics, arts and crafts, and site visits to key attractions such as Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, KidZania in The Dubai Mall, Dolphin show in Creek Park and SkiDubai, among others.

Parents from across the city praised the efforts of Dubai Public Library to instill the importance there aching children how to effectively manage their time during summer vacations.

The Dubai Public Library is regarded as a cornerstone of the city’s cultural fabric. It has facilitated the collection of, and public access to, Dubai’s literary heritage and collections, developing audiences by fostering an understanding and appreciation of literary culture, and encouraging access to these resources through efficient services and state-of-the-art technology.
