SYS will provide thousands of children with food, clothing, school material and medical interventions
UAE, Sharjah, 10 August 2014: With tens of thousands of innocent children facing a humanitarian disaster in Gaza, Salam Ya Seghar is racing against time to provide life-saving interventions for children and their families. Salam Ya Seghar is under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. As part of its humanitarian efforts, Salam Ya Seghar in corporation with welfare association has also donated $1 million to the children of Gaza in response to ‘Save Gaza 2014’ humanitarian appeal.
Salam Ya Seghar aims to provide food aid to 5,000 families, 30,000 hot meals to hospital patients, clothing to 6,000 children, assistance for 150 disabled victims, school bags and stationery for 3,000 children, and medical supplies for 5 hospitals and health centers. This will be done in strategic phases over the next seven months. The conflict has left 70,000 children traumatized and in urgent need of psychological treatment. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Palestine, over 80,000 people desperately need food, clean drinking water, medical attention and other human rights.
Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi explained: “Salam Ya Seghar first came to the rescue of Palestinian children eight years ago, and they have remained in our hearts since then. Now we must act urgently and respond the same way we would if these children were our sons and daughters. Let us bring hope and relief to ease their suffering.”
Salam Ya Seghar will work hand-in-hand with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Gaza Association for Culture and Arts, Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, the Development Center, National Association for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and Care Center for Special Groups.
In addition to immediate interventions, Salam Ya Seghar will also make more long term contributions such as increasing the readiness of emergency departments in hospitals, and delivering therapy programs for war casualties with disabilities or special needs. This could save countless lives as Gaza’s health services have been crippled, with 140 varieties of drugs having run out and 80 more running out soon. The organizations that will greatly benefit include Patients’ Friends Society, Karama Hospital, Hospital Dar es Salaam, the Blood Bank Association and Jaffa Health Center.
Donors are urgently requested to send funds through ‘Salam Ya Seghar – Palestine’, endorsed by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
