Noor Dubai conducted 510 eye surgeries in Yemen

Noor Dubai Foundation  successfully completed its second mobile eye camp for this year in Yemen

The camp is supported by Dubai Islamic Humanitarian Foundation.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 7, 2014: Noor Dubai Foundation has successfully completed its second mobile eye camp for this year in Yemen. The camp is supported by Dubai Islamic Humanitarian Foundation.
Noor Dubai’s medical team screened and treated patients in Bajil town, Al Hudaydah Governorate, Yemen. “This camp is the 5th of its kind in Yemen. The foundation first conducted a camp in January 2009 and treatment was provided to 11,000 individuals,” said His Excellency Eng. Essa Al Maidoor, Chairman of Noor Dubai Foundation.

Dr. Manal Taryam, board member and CEO of the Noor Dubai Foundation said the camp took place from 16-23 April, 2014 and provided sight saving treatment to patients who came from all over the country. “Thousands of patients suffering from vision impairment were screened and treated at the Bajil – El Hodeida camp. The medical team screened 7,085 and conducted over 510 sight saving operations, and distributed 1180 medical glasses,” said Dr Taryam.
“Bajil is a small town (Bajil district) of Al Hudaydah Governorate, Yemen. It is located in the north of Yemen. Bajil is about 425km away from Aden with an estimated population of 169,884 inhabitants. In Yemen, over one per cent of the population is blind.

Dr Taryam, said: “The main case of visual impairment in Yemen is cataract which is normally a disease of the aged, but in Yemen many children are born with congenital cataract that needs to be surgically treated to avoid permanent visual loss.”
The camp received support from the government authorities in Yemen as well as a team of Yemeni doctors and Optometrists. Up to date, Noor Dubai Foundation has provided its medical services & treatments to over 8.9 million individuals globally.
In addition to this camp, Noor Dubai has tied up with the Carter Foundation for its three year project on “Trachoma Elimination.” A team from Noor Dubai Foundation is scheduled to visit Ethiopia this week to oversee the operations of the program that aims at treating 18 million individuals over a period of three years.
