UAE B-Boy wins his first Red Bull BC One Cypher
Dubai, 26 April 2014
B-Boy Peppa got his first taste of glory and won the Red Bull BC One UAE Cypher in style, progressing to represent the UAE in the Middle East and Africa Finals set to take place in Algeria next September. The Moroccan B-Boy edged out rival B-Boy Raf-H in a hotly contested final in which two out of the three international judges vouched for him.
The Cypher, replete with high-energy moves, fast footwork and cutting-edge styles by 16 of the best B-Boys in the country, was held at MusicHall in Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on the Palm Jumeirah. DJ Martin played a mix of break beats, making sure the B-Boys were pumped and felt the rhythm they needed to break, pop and lock their way to glory.
The highly anticipated annual event was infused with touches reminiscent of a renaissance era setting, as if urging the B-Boys to put their best foot forward to progress to the World Final that will be held in Paris on the 29th of November, 2014.
With a disciplined training regimen, B-Boy Peppa has developed impeccable flow with a mixed style combining a variety of maneuvers and tricks that eventually won him the crowd's support and the judges' votes in the heated final battle against B-Boy Raf-H.
After the decision was announced, and celebrations concluded, a jubilant B-Boy Peppa said: “I had a feeling I would win it, but I wasn't completely sure. I'm going to work hard to add a Moroccan flavor to the Regional Finals in Algeria!”
The judging panel was made up of three international judges, B-Boys Cico, Ronnie and Lamine, who had their eyes peeled on the action and based their decision on three main skills; technique, innovation and dance flow.
Since its birth in Switzerland 11 years ago, Red Bull BC One has become the premier competition in the world of B-Boying. It is not the first time the UAE hosts this competition during which competitors present a thrilling show with exquisite moves that require massive energy and powerful footwork, in addition to advanced techniques in dancing. Bringing together myriad styles, backgrounds and personalities, the Red Bull BC One Cyphers are sure to draw a wide range of the Regional's fiercest competitors.
In order to continue this legacy, a team called Red Bull BC One All Stars was formed. They are a crew of internationally renowned dancers, representing the best of the best in the global B-Boy scene. The team started with 4 International professional B-Boys and later on increased to 10 dancers. Each of the crew members is an outstanding individual in their community and each brings a certain style, skillset and original movement to the group, from hardcore power moves to intricate footwork. The Red Bull BC One All Stars travel the world to give workshops, judge competitions, and share their knowledge of both Hip Hop culture and the incredible art form of B-Boying. In fact, judges Cico and Ronnie are 2 of the 10 Red Bull BC One All Stars.
Last year's edition of The Red Bull BC One Championship attained unprecedented levels of success and popularity with the organization of 90 cyphers globally, and the participation of more than a 1000 B-Boys. During the 2013 tour, B-Boy Hong 10 of South Korea won the title in Seoul.
