Surekha Sadana Wins SOLO Artist Award at Artexpo New York 2014

Dubai-UAE: 13 April, 2014 – Surekha Sadana, a UAE-based artist of Indian origin, has been awarded the SOLO Artist Award at Artexpo New York 2014. Surekha was recognised for her exceptionally innovative collection of artworks that was showcased at SOLO, a juried exhibition of innovative, independent artists from across the US and around the world.

Held on the side lines of Artexpo New York and DECOR Expo this year, SOLO also featured three days of seminars and conference classes offering expert perspectives on subjects ranging from art and the economy to small business management, art marketing, and social media for artists. Specifically aimed to enable emerging artists to showcase their work on an international stage in the New York City, SOLO has helped launch careers of countless artists.

Commenting on this achievement, Surekha said: “Since childhood, art has been my window to communicate with the world. I have used it to express emotions, ask questions, and delve deeper into the soul for finding answers that are embodied in my paintings. Receiving this award gives me pride in what I am doing and drives me to set higher benchmarks. I am delighted and honoured that the art pieces I create are appreciated and valued by the international community.”

Born 1970 in Rajasthan, Surekha Sadana graduated in medical science before pursuing painting and taking it up as a full time career.

Known for the profound spirituality portrayed through her art, Surekha’s works have been exhibited in art shows and galleries across the UK, UAE, and major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Surekha's works are a part of private collections in the UK, UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong, and grace the walls of several hospitality establishments in India and abroad.

In 2013, Surekha participated in Italy’s prestigious Florence Biennale, an international multidisciplinary event dedicated to contemporary art.  

Exhibiting at Artexpo New York, an event that has hosted some of the world’s most famous artists including Andy Warhol, Peter Max, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Indian, Keith Haring and Leroy Neiman, marks a significant milestone in Surekha’s artistic career.
