Lights switched off and non-essential appliances unplugged for one hour
Abu Dhabi, UAE (April 01, 2014) – Tilal Liwa Hotel, a secluded hideaway leisure resort perched on the edge of Rub Al Khali Desert, joined millions of people across the globe on Saturday, 29th March 2014, by switching off all unnecessary lights in the hotel premises and staff accommodation for one hour, in support of the annual Earth Hour campaign.
From 8:30pm to 9:30pm, staff and hotel guests switched off their hotel room lights, non-essential lights in the hotel and facilities including the hotel signage and unplugged non-essential appliances to demonstrate their commitment to global environmental change.
Tilal Liwa Hotel is a loyal supporter of Earth Hour and every year the management encourages hotel staff and guests to support the initiative by informing them of the night’s events through posters displayed at the lobby and reception and letters sent to rooms to explain why the hotel is turning off the lights for one hour.
Ayman Ashor, General Manager, Tilal Liwa Hotel, said: “We are a proud supporter of Earth Hour because our action will benefit both this generation and next. We only have one planet and we need to take care of it so our small contribution is vital to its protection and preservation. Tilal Liwa Hotel is committed to adopt sustainable habits so we ensure that unnecessary lights are switched off when not in use and we have also started using energy efficient lighting in the hotel and the staff accommodation.”
He added: “Our special thanks to the hotel guests who voluntarily participated in the one-hour campaign. It was very encouraging to see that majority of our guests were willing to contribute in their own small way to protect our Mother Earth.”
During the one hour darkness, Tilal Liwa Hotel switched off the wall lights in the courtyard and interlock areas including all laundry lights, machines and the boiler. Computers in all offices which are not affecting the hotel operation and all unnecessary lights in the staff accommodation and the washing machines were switched off. Candles replaced the lights at the restaurants and bars.
