Musanada for Earth Hour 2014
Last Update: Sunday, March 30, 2014 : 14:34 (+4GMT)
Abu Dhabi, 30 March 2014: The Abu Dhabi General Services Company “MUSANADA” has switched off all electronic devices and lights in their offices from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m. on Saturday 29th March 2014 in an effort to raise awareness on the adverse effects of excessive energy consumption on our natural resources and global warming.
Playing its part in minimising the impact of energy consumption on climate change, Musanada has continually been a forerunner for the cause with such CSR initiatives over the years.
Through its participation in the global Earth Hour initiative every year, the company hopes to stand as a positive example and provide the necessary impetus for change in the communities it serves.
“We take the issue of preserving the environment very seriously and take several key measures across three main sectors of our operations (i.e. offices, schools and mosques) to ensure minimal environmental impacts through energy reduction projects,” Musanada corporate support executive director Trais Ketbi said.
The company’s efforts are evident at the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority’s headquarters where energy saving bulbs and sensor lights ensure minimal energy consumption. Additionally, sustainability is a key consideration in the design and construction of new schools across the capital, with the likes of air conditioning units that use eco-friendly gas resources. Similarly, the construction and maintenance of mosques entail sustainability measures like LED lighting and other environmentally friendly elements to create clean and safe living spaces.
“All sectors of society should take a proactive stand towards environmental issues and we hope that by setting an example within our own offices and communities, we can instil the sense of responsibility and ownership required to face the reality of global warming,” Mr Ketbi added.
Earth Hour is a global initiative that was pioneered by Sydney, Australia in 2007 with the aim of protecting the planet from global warming. It has since gained momentum on an international scale and is celebrated on the 27th of March ever year.
