Renowned Urologist and Andrologist Dr Oliver Wiseman to Visit Dubai

Bourn Hall Clinic to participate in Obs-Gyn Exhibition, 2014

Dubai, UAE (March 29, 2014): Renowned Urologist and Andrologist Dr Oliver Wiseman, MA FRCS (Urol) will hold two workshops at the forthcoming Obs-Gyn exhibition March 31st - April 1st in Dubai. Although based at Bourn Hall Clinic, Cambridge, UK, Dr Oliver oversees the treatment and management of male patients with fertility problems for Bourn Hall clinics worldwide, including Dubai. He is also a Urologist at Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. 

At the upcoming workshops, he will cover key topics such as history and investigations in male fertility and making a diagnosis, along with discussions on the importance of history and examination in male infertility, the use of hormonal and genetic blood tests and how they help formulate a diagnosis which can direct patient treatment. Furthermore, Dr Oliver will also expound on medical and surgical management in male infertility. This seminar will focus on lifestyle advice for male patients with infertility. For instance, how the sperm counts might be improved, and, if there is no sperm in the ejaculate, the possible operative approaches, including micro-TESE and how hormonal manipulation pre-operatively might improve success. 

In Dr Oliver’s words,  “I am passionate about the importance, that men with fertility problems should be optimally managed, therefore giving them the best chance of biological fatherhood.”

He is able to provide fertility checks and advice for men who have suboptimal sperm counts or problems conceiving to try and improve their chances of conception. For men with no sperm, or Azoospermia, he is able to offer the most suitable operation to try and retrieve sperm, whether that be percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA), or micro-surgical testicular sperm extraction (micro TESE). For men who have previously had a vasectomy he can advise on whether a vasectomy reversal is worthwhile, and if so is able to offer a microsurgical vasectomy reversal, with high personal success rates.

Oliver qualified in Cambridge, UK and following basic surgical training, he undertook a period of research in London. He then underwent specialist training in urology on the North London rotation, including at Guys Hospital and UCLH (“The Institute of Urology”). He has published widely, including articles in peer reviewed journals, GP journals, and chapters in textbooks. He is actively involved in training medical students in Cambridge and urology registrars on rotation in the East of England. He regularly lectures and teaches about the management of male infertility.
