Mosaic passion of a World Citizen: A new French Arts trend from Laurence Torno for the UAE and the GCC countries
Last Update: Thursday, March 20, 2014 : 19:53 (+4GMT)
If you wonder who Laurence Torno is, she would describe herself as an artist who expresses feelings and emotions by creating. This modern designer creates and offers a large brand of art products from mosaic to painting. Her new art design is exclusively made on the trends of the UAE market.
Laurence Torno can realize mosaics by representing water, earth, desert, women, horses or anything else on demand of the client. Concerning home design, she creates eclectic & exotic spheres, tables, vases & fresco.
Her passion dedicated to horses let herself dragged to design amazing arts with horses’ representations. When she talks about horses, Laurence Torno explains “they don’t give their love spontaneously; it takes years of living with them. They are the ones that tame us, with elegance and strength”.
The artistic culture of Middle East inspires extraordinarily her contemporary artistic creations. Indeed, her admiration for Arabic culture & women, splendid desert landscapes, also inspire her every day in her poetic universe. She thinks “you can find kindness & hospitality in this world area”.
The colors symphony she really enjoys is soft or pale colors, but also palettes of intense blue showcases in the infinite, turquoise to light blues, right up to twilight pastels, still in harmony with nature and silence.
The artistic style, here, is elegant, eclectic but also romantic, emotional and provides serenity. The work of arts created by Laurence is valuable as she uses only high quality materials to design: molten glass, white, red or black clay, enamels on copper. All her materials are exclusively made in Europe: most of them come from Italy and France, because they are of high quality and she also works with a French master glazier who realizes her molten glass according to the exact colors she needs.
The clients just give her a theme, the colors they like and with her artistic vision, she draws several pastel drafts. This way, the client can choose one of them, and she finally prepare the pieces of copper, clay and molten glass which will be gathered and cemented together; each of these materials are worked in her own way, with a very special application of hand and eye. Once she’s done, mosaics can be hanged like paintings or embedded into walls like tiles.
Her references in the Middle East are the embassies, architects, celebrities, home designers and other consumers who prefer to remain confidential. According to Laurence Torno, the main artist, and CEO of the art business, the art of mosaics is a research of beauty, because an object, a ceramic, a jar, a vase painted with gold leaf, a table or a fresco must be unique. For over 30 years, she’s worked hard to introduce mosaic in contemporary art and in interior design, in a way nobody had ever done it before.
Laurence Torno participated in the Index 2013 in Dubai. “The clientele in the UAE is very attractive because people are enthusiastic about discovering new way of artistry; it's a very open-minded nation which gives everyone a chance to be successful”, Torno added.
The most unusual request she had was from a client who ordered a mosaic representation of the famous French impressionist painter, Claude Monet: “Monet Gardens in Giverny”. The client wanted it in blue color; and it took long time to cut the wisteria in molten glass, and when it was finish, the client enjoyed it so much that she ordered another one twice bigger but in green, this time.
About Laurence Torno: Laurence is currently working on 2 jars to decorate the entry of a minister's house in Yaoundé. She’s spent most of her life in her workshop, working with an inspired mind and heart, tirelessly and with passion, “trying that the realm of craft can come to the realm of art”. She will also showcase her design to the international exhibition in Paris: “Les Sapins de Noël des Créateurs”. This exhibition is a meeting for all the big fashion designers & architects all around the world.
