Last Update: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 : 17:22 (+4GMT)
The 2014 Dubai Corporate Games were held over the weekend of March 14 and 15, with the participation of 2780 athletes, representing 56 companies and organizations. The record number of participants competed in over 40 different events, in 16 sports: football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, karting, cricket, swimming, running, table tennis, badminton, squash, dragon boat, tug of war, playstation and backgammon.
Most of the competitions took place on the campus of the main venue, the American University in Dubai, home to the Dubai Corporate Games since our 1st year in 2006. A handful of events had to be hosted off the main venue: karting at the Dubai Autodrome, cricket at Wellington School, Golf at the Emirates Golf Club, and Dragon Boat at the Internet City Lake.
At the end of 2 days of excitement, competition, sweat and effort, the Games concluded with an extensive awards ceremony celebrating the weekend's winners...and the new overall "Best Performing Company", Al Tayer Group. Al Tayer was closely followed by PepsiCo, the overal winners in 2012 and 2013. Other leading performers included Leo Burnett, OMD, Petrofac, The Choueiri Group, Chalhoub Group, GE and Nestle.
The Dubai Corporate Games have been very well accepted within the local corporate community, with a high number of companies returning every year, and with record participation with every edition. The Games, organized by High 5 Events, have helped kickstart a corporate sports scene, with many organizations starting yearlong internal sports programs.
"The Dubai Corporate Games are the most efficient and cost effective corporate teambuilding exercise. They promote a healthier lifestyle amongst the business community, and achieve that through a fun and exciting setting" said Bahi Rifai, director at High 5 Events. "We are thankful to all the sponsors who have supported our event and committed to our vision. Some of these sponsors have featured as our partners for years, including The Choueiri Group, PepsiCo, Nescafe, Unilever AUD and ITP", added Rifai.
With the 2014 Games barely finished, the 2015 Games already look exciting with a number of sponsors and participating companies confirming they will definitely be back.
