Dubai, 9th December, 2013: The Minister for Labour and Rehabilitation ShriShibu Baby John, Government of Kerala, India, is presently in Dubai to host the ‘Nypunyam Forum'. The Nypunyam Forum aims to provide for industrial partnerships and tie-ups in the state of Kerala and will take place on 9th December, 2013 at The Shangri La Hotel, Dubai.

The core objective of the Nypunyam initiative is to bridge the gap between industry requirements and skilled workforce, with a focus to identify industry partners and forge alliances with the public and private sectors for providing qualitative and quantitative improvement of training in various sectors like Automobile, Construction, Healthcare, Hospitality, Security, Manufacturing, Retail, etc. The aim is also to train people with Dubai industry norms and standards in mind and further create a talent pool of industry-ready people.

ShriShibu Baby John said, “The Directorate of Employment and Training under the Department of Labour is imparting skills in various vocational trades to meet the skilled manpower requirements of the Industry. To cater to the increasing demand of skilled manpower in the fast changing world and to create an adept and tailor made workforce, the Department of Industrial Training plays a crucial role with its advanced infrastructural facilities. Accepting this as a primary concept, the Department is organising an International Skill Summit named ‘Nypunyam Summit' in January 2014.”

The Initiative has already gotten a show of support from The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) thathas collaborated with the TheNypunyam Summit 2014 as the Industry Partner.

'The industry, world over is facing shortage of trained manpower whereas in Kerala we have one of the richest, educated, adaptable and flexible human resource. Through Nypunyam, industry and the youth, both would be able to meet their respective requirements.'said Mr. Prasanth N. IAS, Director of Employment and Training.

Dr. Nivedita P Haran, Additional Chief Secretary, Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department (Administrative Reforms & Training), Labour and Rehabilitation Department,  Power Department, Director, IMG stated,'Providing skill-based education to its students is one of the biggest challenges that India, indeed all countries of the world, face today.  Training in trades based on market-demand, using modern pedagogical techniques is the need of the hour and Kerala has taken up this task with vigour and dedication.  Equally important is providing the last mile connectivity to bring such employable trainees and employers on a common platform.  Nypunyam is a sincere and a practical effort in this direction.'

The Nypunyam Forum will act as the first step towards the final ‘Nypunyam Summit' that will take place on January 20-21at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.

About the Nypunyam Summit

The International Skill Summit, Nypunyam – Global Needs, Local Skills, to be held on 20th – 21st January 2014 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India aims at bringing together investors, industry, trainer institutions, trainers, policy makers, policy implementers, academicians, thinkers and young people from across Kerala, India and the World to develop a plan that would identify and carry forward skills development regime in Kerala. The focus of this meet ‘Nypunyam' would also be on developing the outlines of such a plan such that the outcomes of the meet would form the basis for the development of the 9-year Skills Plan.

Pre-Summit contact and discussions with all Registrants and Invitees will precede the Summit.  What the State has to offer to prospective partners and the assets that the State possesses will be made known to all Registrants to enable them to come up with their proposals before the Summit.  For those proposals that are accepted based on a transparent set of guidelines, the Summit will be the occasion to bring all such proposals to fruition. 

About Shri Shibu Baby John

A Mechanical Engineer by education and Trade Union leader by vocation,    Shibu Baby John, the Minister for Labour and Rehabilitation of Kerala State is bringing in a whole new dimension to public service with his vast experience and expertise in a wide spectrum of fields.

Shibu Baby John (born - 27 July 1963), the present Labour Minister is the only Engineer by profession in Kerala cabinet. Son of Late Baby John, the eminent RSP leader Mr. Shibu Baby John is also the General Secretary of Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John) based in Kerala. This party being part of Congress-led United Democratic Front.

The Experience and exposure that was gained as an Industrialist during the formative years and later as a Trade Union Leader of various sectors, working closely with the workers of all  stratospheres has added to the experience and understanding of the issues. This has helped in moulding the insight and principles as a mass leader with awareness to issues even at the grass root level.

As a person Shri. Shibu Baby john is a wild life enthusiast and nature lover with a penchant for travel. He has visited lot of countries like USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Portugal, Switzerland, UAE, South Africa, Egypt, Japan, Korea, Srilanka, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Thailand, Spain.

Keen Interest in understanding civilization in a bigger canvass, has made him an explorer of history and culture of different civilizations. An ardent learner of Art, literature, Music and Cinema from around the world, he takes much interest in learning about the great personalities of our times from other Nations.  Closely associated with badminton association and clubs, he is a passionate lover of sports and outdoor activities.

He is son of the legendary late Baby John and Smt. Annanmma Baby John. Married to  Annie Mathew, the loving couple is blessed with 2 kids, Master Achu Baby John and Master Amar Sebastian.
