ALHOSN University's inaugural ‘Sports Day' encourages community to live healthy

November 26, 2013: ALHOSN University, an educational institution committed to global knowledge with local vision, called on its students, employees and the community at large to adopt a more active and healthier lifestyle during its 1st Sports Day held yesterday (Monday, November 25, 2013) at the Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Musalla, Abu Dhabi.

The event officially commenced with a seminar on podiatry and sports injuries and their proper care conducted by Dr. Jeoseph Quattrone from Universal Hospital, followed by a presentation on nutrition and dietary habits by Dr. Anita Das Gupta, a Clinical Dietician and Nutritionist at Burjeel Hospital. Both sessions were held at the university's Male Campus.

The main activities took place at the Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Stadium near the University campus from 5 to 8 pm. Various fitness and sports clubs as well as health service providers set up information booths at the venue, where special sessions on Aikido, Body Attack, Body Combat, Body Balance, Body Jam, Yoga, and Zumba were held as well. Football, table tennis and basketball tournaments also formed part of the day's agenda.

Universal Hospital conducted free medical check-ups to determine the Body Mass Index (BMI), blood sugar level and pulse rate of participants. Event sponsors Gold's Gym, Aikido Abu Dhabi, Get Moving Fitness & Spa Centre and SportsOne treated participants to various discounts and promotions. Get Moving Spa & Fitness Center awarded a free one-month membership and other gifts to the tournament winners, while SportsOne gave out 10 vouchers worth AED 100 each for winners to redeem for any sports apparel, footwear, or soccer, swimming, biking, team sports and gym equipment at its store.

The event also connected beginners and enthusiasts alike to several sports options and the nearest and best places to engage in them. It was an ideal platform for us to emphasize how physical fitness is integral to the growth of an individual, in line with ALHOSN's holistic approach to personal development,” said Professor Munther Momany, Vice Chancellor and CEO of ALHOSN University.

ALHOSN University was founded in 2005 by the Abu Dhabi Holding Company in response to growing local demand for high-quality, value-based educational institutions. It is named after Abu Dhabi's historic ALHOSN Palace. The university offers 18 undergraduate and 11 postgraduate degrees under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences.
