Abu Dhabi-UAE: 21 October, 2013 – The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), responsible for the development of quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in Abu Dhabi, organised an educational workshop on the mandatory requirements for medical and laboratory instruments in the capital.
The awareness-building workshop was held in collaboration with the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and was attended by experts, specialists and professionals from hospitals across the emirate.
Quality guidelines for legal metrology instruments used in laboratories, clinics, hospitals and health centres were discussed at length. The participants were informed that such regulations are applicable to imported or manufactured measurement instrument such as medical digital thermometers, sphygmomanometers, glucometers, scales and sterilizers.
Abdalla Hassan Al Muaini, Director of Consumer Safety Services at QCC, said: "The awareness workshop is in line with our efforts to ensure that medical and laboratory products conform to set safety standards while meeting the needs of the community. It was hosted as part of our commitment to raising awareness about the QCC Trustmark to help customers recognise quality products. At the same time, such workshops contribute to improving general efficiency of performance in highly skilled technical zones such as labs.”
The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of Abu Dhabi's exports and products traded locally. In addition to protecting the interests of the emirate's consumers, QCC is mandated to support its competitive economy and integration into the global marketplace. This is achieved through enabling regulators to set up and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes.
