Last Update: Monday, September 16, 2013 : 13:42 (+4GMT)
AXE is going where only few have gone before by giving fans the ultimate out-of-this-world experience: a trip to space. To recruit for this once-in-a-lifetime epic journey, AXE created the AXE Apollo Space Academy (A.A.S.A) with one of the first men to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin. By joining A.A.S.A at AXEApollo.com, guys and girls had a chance to compete for one of 13 tickets to travel to space on a flight with international space agency, Space Expedition Corporation (SXC). The digitally led campaign has helped recruit thousands of hopeful men and women from Egypt, Kuwait and the UAE.
Announced at the AXE Grand Finale party at the Royal Mirage in Dubai on September 10, AXE revealed that one of the three coveted tickets through highest digital activity went to Omar Samra, a finalist from the UAE. Omar is an adventurer, mountaineer, entrepreneur and Inspirational speaker. He is the first Egyptian and youngest Arab to climb Mount Everest, as well as the first Egyptian to complete the 7 Summits challenge on May 31st 2013, climbing the highest mountain on all 7 continents.
The AXE Grand Finale also announced two winners who beat 7 others to win the remaining two tickets of only 13 tickets available worldwide for a chance to travel to space. The competition was judged by Miss World Australia 2012 and Miss World 2nd runner up 2012, Jessica Kahawaty and Dubai's nightlife sensation, the talented DJ Bliss.
The hopefully astronauts that emerged were Ahmed Haggagovich from UAE and Ahmed Khalid Said from Egypt. Haggagovich is an Egyptian Globe Trotter and peace activist who has currently set foot on 107 countries and more than 250 main cities around the world, in his mission to be the first human in history to set foot in every country in the world with a pronounced message of “freedom, happiness and peace.” Ahmed Khalid Said is a space enthusiast who is currently studying in Cairo, Egypt and has always dreamed of going to space.
The three regional winners will have one final obstacle to pursue: the final stage at the AXE Global Space Camp in Orlando, Florida where the final 13 space travellers will be selected based on competitive space-simulation challenges.
