A new suite of iOS, Android and Windows 8 smartphone apps will change the way people book a trip to the movies
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 19 August 2013 – Movie buffs and technophiles now have better access to securing tickets for the latest blockbusters thanks to VOX Cinemas' innovative new and enhanced smartphone apps. Integrating the latest in smartphone technology for iOS, Android and Windows 8 operating systems, VOX Cinemas' apps are designed to provide the ultimate in convenience and efficiency for customers who want to book their tickets in advance, and on-the-go. This launch is timely as a recent study by Google revealed that smartphone penetration in the UAE is higher than the UK, with 61% of respondents using a smartphone and 71% using it for online purposes daily. In addition, VOX Cinemas has witnessed a significant increase in movie-goers booking tickets online via mobile sites or smartphone apps over the past year, reaffirming the shift from traditional queuing at the ticket box office to booking in advance using modern technology.
“VOX Cinemas' new smartphone apps are designed for the modern consumer on-the-go. We've invested in the latest technology to ensure a quick and seamless movie-booking experience, plus added in some unique features exclusive to our app users,” said Cameron Mitchell, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas. “Our smartphone apps are also fully integrated across the UAE and in Beirut, Lebanon meaning customer have access to the cinema of their choice at their fingertips.”
Features of VOX Cinemas' smartphone apps includes ‘geo-location' which detects the closest VOX Cinemas to the user's current location – from which the customer can follow the easy-to-navigate interface to scan movies, check timings, select seats and choose from their favourite movie concepts: VOX GOLD, VOX MAX, VOX 3D and VIP or standard seating options. Once booked, movie-goers only need to collect their pre-booked tickets at one of multiple kiosks in the cinema lobby.
Since VOX Cinemas launched their first iPhone app more than two years ago, more than 120,000 users have downloaded it from the app store. With the surge of new smartphones in the market, VOX Cinemas has not only upgraded and enhanced their iOS app, but also launched dedicated platform for Android and within weeks will launch the Windows 8 operating system for Nokia Lumia phones, effectively broadening their reach of smartphone users in the UAE. Each platform is enhanced with several unique functions: the iOS app presents the first cinema to offer Passbook integration, allowing customers to store their purchased cinema tickets in a separate app developed by Apple along with other mobile payment coupons and tickets; both the iOS and Android app offer the geo-location feature while the soon to launch Windows 8 app allows customers to book movie tickets off posters or movie show listings with the built-in QR Code scanner. Moreover, all of VOX Cinemas' apps feature an alert function that notifies movie-goers whe
n tickets for upcoming blockbusters go on sale, ensuring they are first in line to book their favourite seats.
With no queues, no waiting and first-in-line privileges to see the movie of choice, VOX Cinemas' apps are designed to make your movie-going experience easier and more enjoyable and are now available on iTunes for iOS users, on the Samsung app for Andriod users and will soon be available on the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone.
