DUBAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OPENS ITS DOORS FOR THE 10TH EDITION
Dubai, August 19th, 2013: Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) announced today that registration is now open for media, industry and students to the 10th edition of the Festival, which runs from Friday, 6th December and comes to a close on Saturday, 14th December.
Over the last 10 years DIFF has earned a reputation as a destination for discovering and showcasing Arab cinema and the best of international cinema screening more than 150 films last year including 50 world premieres from 56 countries.
As well as a diverse array of films, DIFF is renowned for the Dubai Film Market (DFM) the leading sales and acquisitions platform in the Middle East dedicated to development, production and distribution of film. DFM's project arms like Enjaaz, DIFF's post-production funding support programme for filmmakers of Arab origin and The Exchange, DIFF's training and partnership activities with leading international organisations will continue its commitment to nurturing UAE and Arab talent to further accelerate the film industry in the region.
The DFM at DIFF will offer extensive opportunities for all industry delegates; last year over 2,000 executives, distributors, producers, commissioners, funders, advisors and buyers attended the Festival from around the world to do business. The DFM gives delegate's access to a range of initiatives that support and fund projects originating from the Arab world. Emerging as an invigorating market place, with an increasing demand for stands and representation of sales companies and film commissions; it's the perfect place for filmmakers to pitch new ideas, meet potential production investors and production partners. Sales Agents and distributers can access the successful Cinetech, a fully-digitised library of the festival's film programme plus a selection of films which have been shown in festivals in the region. Last year's collection included 335 films representing 62 countries in 45 languages and witnessed many successful deals and collaborations between the Festival and its partner.
Media and industry candidates granted access to DIFF's decennial edition will be offered a programme of screenings, red carpet access, galas, master classes, discussions, industry support, workshops and the opportunity to meet filmmakers, onscreen talent and industry professionals from across the globe. Whilst students will also have an unrivalled opportunity to volunteer at one of the most exciting events in the region.
Shivani Pandya, DIFF Managing Director said: “Plans are well underway as we prepare to shine the cinematic spotlight on Dubai and celebrate 10 years of DIFF with a stellar line-up of films, special guests, industry initiatives and events that we are excited to share with Festival-goers. Pioneering initiatives such as the Dubai Film Market (DFM) and the Muhr Awards have enriched professional experiences in the region, while also raising the profile of regional works on the world stage. DIFF is a frontrunner in promoting better cultural understanding through creative achievements in film. I encourage all to register at the earliest to reserve a seat to celebrate Dubai's December festival, the platform for Arab filmmakers and where excellence in cinema from around the world is showcased. We look forward to welcoming back those who have supported us over the past 10 years and encourage those who haven't been before to come and experience DIFF.”
Students, media and industry professional planning to attend the DIFF this year are urged to register early. For more information go to www.diff.ae
