Goan Welfare Society crowned Dulsco Ramadan Super 8 cricket champs

GWS overpowers Oxford Marine to maintain winning streak
Dubai, UAE, August 6th, 2013: Much-fancied Goan Welfare Society were crowned as the champions of the Dulsco Ramadan Super 8 cricket tournament this week, following a well-deserved victory over Oxford Marine in the final played out at Dulsco Village, Dubai.
GWS shone with both bat and ball to continue their winning streak and remain unbeaten throughout the entire 30-day tournament. After winning the toss in the final match, GWS chose to field and controlled the game from the beginning itself. Tight bowling and regular wickets saw GWS restricting Oxford Marine's batsmen to just 33 runs in their allotted eight overs, with GWS' Abdul Sheikh being the main tormentor with a haul of three crucial wickets in two overs.
Oxford Marine's batsmen put up a weak resistance against the fierce GWS bowling attack and none of them managed to reach double digits. In their batting response, GWS managed to reach the target score in just 5.1 overs, losing three wickets in the process.
Javed Sheikh scored a brilliant 22 runs and finished the match in breath-taking fashion as he hit a six to reach the target. Sheikh took home the Man of the Match award while Hayat Dalvi from Oxford Marine was named as the Man of the Series for his all-round performance throughout the tournament. More than 16 teams participated in the tournament and many matches ended in close finishes.
The Dulsco Super 8 Ramadan cricket tournament is aimed at identifying and encouraging young cricket talent in the region. The matches were played in round-robin format, allowing all teams a fair chance at the top spot. Teams were allowed to feature only 8 players and could play eight overs against each other. The tournament was played under the supervision of qualified professional umpires.
