British Council Launches its ‘Young Creative Screen and Multimedia Entrepreneur Award' in the UAE

The Award Enhances Positive Collaboration between UK and UAE Screen and Multimedia Professionals
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 6 August 2013 – The British Council's Young Creative Screen and Multimedia Entrepreneur Award (YCE Screen and Multimedia Award) have been announced to discover local talents in the screen and multimedia categories. The award fosters collaboration between UK and UAE professionals and enhances unified learning and development in the field.
Launched today, the award aims to connect participants aged 21-40 who currently work in the creative sector to a global market with their creative and innovative ideas in the fields of screen and multimedia. The Award focuses on areas of film, TV, and animation sector across various platforms such as internet, broadcast, consoles, and mobile devices etc. Candidates will be drawn from a myriad of media sections, including interactive software, social media developers, media distribution and sales, festival/event programming and management, and specialists and agencies supporting the development of these industries.
“With the constant growth of the sector in the region, particularly in the UAE, and following the remarkable quality of previous years' applications for the Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards, we are confident about the calibre of applications to receive for the Award this year too. We believe that this exciting platform not only identifies that pool of talent across the creative sectors, but nurtures it further by offering some sense of competition with the aim of gaining international exposure for numerous opportunities,” said Michel Bechara, Head of Projects, British Council UAE.
“The quality of UAE applicants and winners of the British Council's Young Creative Entrepreneur programme proves there is the existence of great talents who are driving the promising future of the UAE's creative industry,” Bechara added.
The participant chosen from the UAE will join other to attend a one week industry programme in the UK from the 13th – 20th October 2013 to develop opportunities for commercial and collaborative work in future. Participants will be hosted at the London Cross Media Forum to engage with media practitioners from around the world.
The British Council will also arrange a programme of meetings, presentations and networking opportunities between participants and inspiring London-based creative leaders, in addition to several workshops including an opportunity to attend the London Film Festival.
Creative entrepreneurs from this sector seeking to participate in the programme must apply by 1 September 2013. To be eligible, candidates must be aged from 21 and 40, work in the UAE screen and/or multimedia sector with at least three years' experience, and be available for interview in UAE on 4 or 5 September.
