Dubai, UAE, 14 August 2025: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will participate for the second time in the 89th edition of the IFLA World Library and Information Congress, one of the world’s leading events in the library and information sector, which will take place from 18 to 22 August, 2025, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
This participation reflects the library’s commitment to bolstering its presence in international forums by reviewing its key initiatives and innovative services. Through its participation, the library aims to explore opportunities for international collaboration with other library institutions in the fields of knowledge and information, and fostering cooperation.
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Salem AlMazrooei, Board Member at Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, said: “Our goal is to strengthen international cooperation. We also aim to position the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library as a regional model for digital transformation and inclusive knowledge access.”
AlMazrooei added: “Through this global platform, we aspire to build strategic partnerships that support content exchange, skills development, and the promotion of a culture of reading and critical thinking, thus reinforcing the library's role as a key driver of sustainable development and a knowledge-based future.”
On the sidelines of the event, the library team will shed light on the Dubai International Library and Publishing Summit, scheduled for October 2025. The summit will be held at the library under the theme “The Future of Publishing Industry”, and will bring together top decision-makers, publishers, specialists, and experts from around the world to discuss the current state of the publishing industry, its challenges, and explore new opportunities for developing this vital sector.
The team will also showcase the library’s leading initiatives and services, which combine traditional and modern concepts of public libraries using the latest AI tools. Among these initiatives is “A World in Your Language”, which aims to break cultural barriers and make content accessible to readers and visitors of various nationalities by translating books into several languages. They will also review “A World Reads”, a reading initiative that has reached over a million students across UAE schools.
Furthermore, the team will highlight some of the library’s latest technologies and services, including the Restoration Centre, the Automated Warehouse, the Treasures of the Library Exhibition, as well as the Mohammed Bin Rashid Arabic Language Award, which aims to promote the Arabic language and support initiatives that highlight its beauty.
Throughout the conference, the library team will participate in sessions and workshops to stay abreast of the latest developments in the use of artificial intelligence. This will contribute to enhancing library services, integrating libraries into future educational and knowledge infrastructures, and exploring the latest trends in the field of libraries and information science. The library will end its participation with field visits to public libraries across Kazakhstan, as part of a program designed to share expertise and explore global best practices in the management of public and academic libraries.
IFLA 2025 will bring together more than 3,500 participants from over 120 countries. It will feature sessions discussing the latest trends in the library and information sector, interactive workshops on innovation and modern technologies, and much more.
