Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial

The Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial continues its promotion of the art of Arabic Calligraphy in 2022 with the theme ‘Elevation’. Launched in 2004 to introduce and promote the Art of Arabic Calligraphy, the biennial brings together renowned calligraphers and practitioners from around the world to showcase their art and projects in Sharjah.

The art works take the form of fascinating sculptures, interactive and immersive installations, paintings and rare manuscripts while a number of activities are also on offer, including exhibitions, workshops, and lectures. Over 200 artists are participating this year, including many well known prize winners, expert in a variety of media, making the 2022 biennial a unique chance to view these specially created art works, offering the viewer a glimpse into this traditional art form, famous for its complexities and beauty.

The exhibits and events are taking place at a variety of venues around Sharjah including Heart of Sharjah, Sharjah Art Museum and the House of Wisdom.
