End of season gathering in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
October 27, 2021: Less than a week into the ‘off-season’ and UAE Team Emirates are already laying the groundwork for 2022.
The team recently returned from a week long stay in UAE where they attended numerous community bike rides, children’s rides, sponsor events and team building exercises.
Other highlights included a visit to the Expo 2020 in Dubai and the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.
Throughout the week the team were given a warm reception and reminded of the good influence their efforts are having on the domestic sporting scene.
Cycling and the use of the bicycle continues to grow in the UAE in recent years with hundreds of kilometres of bike lanes across Dubai and Abu Dhabi and plans in place to construct a velodrome.
HH Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni Al Dhaheri (Team President) : “It gives me great pleasure for our athletes to come back and see the effect they are having on the people and inspiring them to ride the bike and adapt sport as part of their lifestyles. The success of the team all over the world has motivated the people here to get active and we are seeing a really positive change which we are determined to continue and grow.”
Mauro Gianetti (CEO & Team Principal): “Every time we come back to UAE we are blown away by the reception. You can see what we are doing is getting more people aware of the importance of exercise and the fun of cycling so that’s already a victory for us. Also to see the new riders and welcome them to the UAE family was important, and I can already see that they are settling in well. It’s an international country and we are an international team so it’s a good mix of people and we have put together a really nice group.”
