Ajman-UAE: December 18, 2019 – Ajman University (AU), following an agreement sealed on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, has become the first university in the country to integrate with the UAE's new smart identity scheme known as ‘UAE Pass’.
The UAE Pass, a new national digital identity and signature solution for citizens, residents and visitors, will significantly ease, expedite and secure all federal and local government transactions for AU students, faculty, and staff.
UAE Pass not only allows users to securely identify themselves to service providers through smartphone-based authentication, but also helps them digitally sign documents.
Mohammad Al Khamis, Programme Director, Smart Government, UAE, said there are now over 5,000 services on UAE Pass. “The UAE Pass has a dedicated app and website, and around 165,000 users so far.”
AU Chancellor, Dr Karim Seghir, said the milestone agreement is part of the University commitment to go smarter and keep abreast with the latest trends in the country.
“UAE Pass allows AU students, faculty, and staff to access all government services using a single account.”
Users just need to authenticate once to access multiple on-line government e-services, he added.
“The vast majority of UAE government services are available online. Without SmartPass, each service of these requires a username and password.”
This means more hassle to memorise, or document, several usernames and passwords, he explained. “This often leads to situations like access denial due to forgotten passwords, or account blocking because of failed logins.”
UAE Government e-services, enabled by SmartPass, accept the username and password that are stored in SmartPass.
“To access UAE Government e-services, a user only needs to memorise his SmartPass username and password.”
