Abu Dhabi, UAE - 24 November 2019: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), in cooperation with the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, hosted a group of children suffering from a number of chronic illnesses who have dreams of becoming engineers. The event took place in recognition of Universal Children’s Day on 20 November 2019 and is the result of ENEC’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and humanitarianism.
Executives from all three entities had the chance to spend time with the children, each suffering from chronic illnesses, and worked to grant their wishes in a show of support for their struggle, and to strengthen their resolve along with that of their families and loved ones.
H.E. Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of ENEC, said: “As we come together to mark Universal Children’s Day, it was incredibly inspiring to see these brave young children so resolute in the face of such challenges. It was our sincere hope that through this event we could help fulfil the wishes of the children to help ease the tough circumstances they are in, and support their families during this difficult time.”
“In line with its commitment to powering the future social and economic prosperity of the UAE through the provision of safe, clean and reliable electricity, ENEC is dedicated to engaging with communities across the country through a variety of initiatives,” added H.E. Eng. Al Hammadi.
Hani Al Zubaidi, the Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, said: “We are delighted to work with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, its efforts have brought happiness and hope to the children and are to be commended. The UAE’s strategy of empowering and encouraging its public and private sector institutions to become role models through community engagement and corporate social responsibility is in line with the UAE Year of Tolerance as well as the goals of Universal Children’s Day.”
The Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, established under the kind patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha Bint Mohamed Bin Saif Al Nahyan is dedicated to granting the wishes of children suffering from chronic or terminal ailments.
Recognized by the United Nations, Universal Children's Day was established in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20 every year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare. 20 November is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, as well as the date in 1989 when the assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
