Cons of buying a used car directly from an individual

In some cases, buying a used car may be a more expensive affair at a dealer compared to an individual.
This, of course, is not applicable in every single case. Having said that, mere price should not be the only thing to be considered while buying a used car, there are many aspects which can show you a completely different picture altogether.
If you’re looking to buy used cars in Dubai, Carswitch can cater to all and any of your need with its extensive inventory in every category, be it a sedan, SUV or a premium exotic car.
Let us look at a few cons to keep in mind while buying from an individual:
- No warranty: When buying from a dealer, you may not necessarily get a full warranty for every car or in every case, but you will get some warranty (maybe even for 30 days), which you won’t get from an individual. This is a major con, as warranty ensures a perfectly running vehicle for a particular warranty period which is necessary for your peace of mind as you know that you didn’t spend your money depending on luck. Would you prefer to save a few bucks over your precious peaceful nights? You decide.
- No place to go back: With an individual, the deal is done once you pay the money and get the key. With a dealership, it’s actually the starting. Let us say, you buy the car from a dealer’s place, and you drive it for two days, and the suspension breaks down. Then, you can always go back to the dealership, and you can get them to help you out with regards to replacing the suspension or whatever related parts it needs to be repaired fully. But if you buy it from an individual, that person can simply choose to ignore your calls or straight out refuse to help you with anything, and legally you can’t do much about it (unless there’s a contract between both of you). So, it will be a lot less of a hassle to take care of the necessary repairs if you buy it from a dealer, in case anything goes wrong compared to a private seller.
- Lack of accountability: A dealer puts its reputation on stake with every used car it sells. It doesn’t only sell you a car, it also promises you accountability to a certain extent, which an individual can never provide. An individual is only looking for a buyer to sell their car. So they can simply hide some serious faults in his/her car for the sake of selling it off as quickly as possible. And unless you got a keen understanding of car’s technicalities or very good eyes for such faults (which usually only professional engineers and mechanics can tell), you are almost guaranteed to be duped. A credible dealer would never sell you a car knowing it has some faults that as their business depends on reputation and word of mouth publicity. That’s the reason they employ a certain number of qualified professional engineers and mechanics in their dealership with all the modern machines and tools to check every car thoroughly.
Despite knowing all the positive aspects of engaging with a dealer, its important to weigh out whether or not the extra cost is worth, whenever you buy and sell cars from a dealership.
