Dubai, April 3, 2019: Emirates District Cooling LLC [Emicool], a leading district cooling service provider in the region, and wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai Investments PJSC, has underlined its efforts towards sustainability with a decision to convert to an all-electric vehicle fleet comprising Renault ZOE cars delivered by Arabian Automobiles, the flagship company of the AW Rostamani Group and the exclusive dealer for Renault in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, and a commitment to providing six EV (electric vehicle) charging spots for the general public with the support of DEWA.
Emicool will launch phase 1 of the project by adopting the Renault Zoe, a compact, noise free model, for 40% of its fleet, and will add another 30% pickup style vehicles in September before transforming 100% of its fleet by quarter 1 of 2020. The move to replace the entire fleet with electric models will reduce CO₂ emissions by 400 ton CO₂ per year, while the decision to make EV charging spots available, part of Emicool’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, will give the general public the opportunity to live greener and more sustainable lives.
Doctor Adib Moubadder, CEO of Emicool said: “Emicool provides a viable, sustainable solution to air conditioning requirements in this region and sustainability is part of our mission – to provide a reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly district cooling service which helps to reduce millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. We have always implemented clean energy programmes to achieve energy efficiency and renewable energy, as aligned with the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030. Our new fleet of electric cars and our green public parking spots are just further evidence of our initiatives to help promote environmental and economic sustainability.”
Salah Yamout, Director of Sales and Marketing at Arabian Automobiles, said: “The Renault ZOE is an environment-friendly car with elegant design, maximum comfort and superb performance and we’re delighted that Emicool is employing them as it helps in maintaining an all-electric patrol fleet and meets the green mission of UAE’s leadership.”
The Renault Zoe is a 100% electric, noise free compact model which runs on electric engine technology and generates zero emissions in use, thereby reducing harmful air pollution. The driving range in normal conditions is 300km, and charge time for the battery is 7.25 hours from a single phase charging station, with a quick-charge option that takes just one hour and 40 minutes from zero to 80% charged, and two hours 40 minutes to 100% charged.
With the comfort of the motorists in mind, ZOE has a compact sculpted shape. The Renault ZOE has an automatic gearbox in the standard version. Adding to the smart and innovative features, it also has climate control and a combined filter with the Eco-mode acting directly on the air-conditioning.
Last year, Emicool received ISO (International Organization for Standardization) global certifications for its quality, energy and environmental management systems. It also became the first district cooling agency in the MENA region to be conferred the Global Conformity GC Mark as a certified green company. Other efforts in sustainability at Emicool include a 70KW solar car parking system and plans for a 2.8MW solar farm.
Emicool caters to district cooling requirements across a number of strategic locations, including Dubai Investments Park, Jumeirah Bay Island, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Sports City, Uptown Mirdif, Akoya by DAMAC, Mirdif Hills and Palazzo Versace & D1 Tower. It was also awarded the contract for a district cooling facility for Master Developer DWTC to serve Expo Village, Dubai South Mall and the new conference and exhibition centre at the Expo 2020 site.
