Abu Dhabi, 26 February 2019: To celebrate National Reading Month, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has organised an engaging programme of events for all ages. Throughout the month of March, six libraries across the emirate will host a range of activities including reading and storytelling sessions, meet-and-greets with well-known children’s book authors, a series of interactive workshops, and much more.
Abdulla Majid Al Ali, Acting Executive Director of the Dar Al Kutub Sector, DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi is celebrating National Reading Month with a huge number of initiatives and events that will encourage a love of the written word. This year we designed a programme with something for everyone, aimed at engaging individuals of all age groups and interests.
“We strive to encourage interaction with reading and writing in a multitude of ways, in line with the core objectives of the annual National Reading Month: to establish reading as a fundamental cultural pillar, to establish the value of knowledge and learning in a forward-looking nation, and to foster an open-minded society that embraces different cultures.”
The Meet the Author sessions give fans the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with their favourite children’s book authors, who will reveal their inspirations and provide insights into their work. Other events include reading sessions such as A Book in 30 Minutes and Let’s Read Together. There will also be a series of creative, interactive workshops.
National Reading Month will host a booth at Bawadi Mall from 16 to 27 March, 10am to 10pm, offering a 50% discount on new Dar Al Kuteb publications for the public. Cultural activities for children will take place over the weekend (22 – 23 March).
