Abu Dhabi, UAE – 9 August 2018: The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) brought the excitement and entertainment of Abu Dhabi Summer Season 2018 directly to young patients of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, bringing storytelling, games and a special visit from Nickelodeon characters. The event was organised with the aim to introduce the younger generation to the importance of humanitarian efforts and social responsibility.
Young patients were treated to a day filled with storytelling and reading activities as part of the Summer Programme, alongside workshops introducing a selection of international authors, books, and cultures from around the world, to encourage patients to read more during the summer break. Additionally, the "Let's Read and Enjoy" programme held a session at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City yesterday with the aim to transfer a library’s atmosphere to hospital patients, bringing them an ambiance of love for knowledge and reading, as well as introducing them to the many national library branches spread across Abu Dhabi.
Children were also treated to a special surprise visit from their favourite Nickelodeon characters including SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, bringing their stories to life for the children. The visit also included, interactive workshop activities filled with puzzle making, colouring and singing.
Organised as part of DCT Abu Dhabi’s outreach programme, the special visit was aimed at all age groups, especially sick children, to provide them with the necessary moral and psychological support for a smooth recovery.
