Dubai, UAE, October 18, 2017: Tissot, the number one Swiss Traditional watch brand, will be lending its expertise to the 18th Asian Games Jakarta Palembang 2018 as Official Timekeeper. For the first time in Asian Games history, two cities will co-host the event. It will take place in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and the capital of Indonesian province of South Sumatra, Palembang, from August 18 to September 2, 2018.
Tissot and the Asian Games share values such as tradition, precision and passion. Like the watch brand, The Asian Games, held every four years, have a rich history dating back to 1951, representing the oldest and most prestigious event in the calendar of the Olympic Council of Asia. Gathering the highest number of participants worldwide, it is the largest multi-sport Games. Athletes from 45 NOCs will have the opportunity to show what they are made of in the 67 various disciplines. In addition to all the traditional sports such as swimming, athletics, basketball and cycling, the Asian Games also feature sports such as sepaktakraw, pencak silat, wushu and kabaddi that are traditional to Asian culture.
Tissot acquired the expertise to provide the many disciplines with the utmost precision thanks to a deep-rooted passion. The passion translated into a comprehensive schedule of high-profile timekeeping partnerships over the years. They include basketball with the NBA and FIBA; cycling with the Tour de France and the UCI World Cycling Championships; motorsports with MotoGPTM and the FIM World Superbike Championship and rugby with the European Rugby Champions and Challenge Cups and the TOP14. Tissot is also the Official Timekeeper of the World Championships of fencing and ice hockey. Furthermore, this marks the 20th anniversary since Tissot first timed the Asian Games in Bangkok, in 1998. For Tissot, it is a perfect platform for demonstrating its dedication to precision in action, which is why it will be continuing to do so, the agreement having also been signed for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou in 2022.
Active involvement in all of these sports brings the brand closer to fans all over the world, whether they are watching live, on television or taking part in the action by wearing one of the associated special edition watches, which Tissot will produce in honour of this impressive event.
Tissot President, François Thiébaud stated “The Asian Games reflect the Tissot spirit perfectly by their diversity and dynamism and allow us to set ourselves apart with impeccable timekeeping and the most accurate measurement, which further confirms the quality of our watches. Even though we have provided our services to the Asian Games before, we strive to bring even more precision and innovation on every occasion, as we do for our watches. “Innovators by tradition” is our motto and we stand by it.”
The Asian Games will definitely be an event to be proud of. Whether it is for those taking part in the organisation, the athletes themselves or the billions of fans and supporters across Asia, this partnership promises to put on a show which is not to be missed.
