Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council Signs Collaboration Agreement with Emirates Post Group

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 17 June, 2017 – Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, signed a collaboration agreement with Emirates Post Group to verify the accuracy of legal measuring instruments used in Emirates Post Group’s business operations in Abu Dhabi.

The partnership agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr Helal Humaid Al Kaabi, Acting Secretary General of QCC and His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Al Ashram, Acting CEO of Emirates Post Group.

The agreement facilitates the exchange of information and expertise between both sides on monitoring consignments related to controlled products and legal measuring instruments such as commercial scales, blood pressure monitors and thermometers as well as pre-packaged containers.

Under its terms, QCC inspectors will collect samples of controlled product shipments handled by the Emirates Post Group and verify their compliance with the relevant quality and safety requirements before they enter the market. This helps the two parties identify products with potential risks and safety concerns, and prevent their circulation.

Sultan Abdulrahman Al Midfa, CEO of Postal Operations at Emirates Post Group, said: “The signing of this agreement with QCC is aligned with Emirates Post Group’s core values of transparency and integrity in service delivery. Al Midfa added: “In signing this agreement, we seek to strengthen our collaboration with QCC and exchange expertise and information on dealing with product shipments related controlled products and legal measuring instruments. This will help us step up our collective efforts to identify potential risks and prevent the circulation of products that pose safety concerns. Emirates Post Group is keen to leverage its strong relations with other entities to enhance the quality of services offered to our customers in the postal area of Abu Dhabi.”

Sultan Al Mehairi, Director of Information Service and Engagement at QCC, said: "The agreement with Emirates Post Group is part of our ongoing efforts to leverage synergies with quality-focused stakeholders in the public and private sector towards ensuring the effectiveness of surveillance mechanisms for controlled goods.”

He added: “The agreement will enable QCC to meet its obligations towards suppliers and consumers through protecting them from potentially hazardous products. We are always on the lookout for ways to enhance our inspection capabilities and ensure that all products entering the Abu Dhabi market, especially controlled products, are duly inspected and tested for conformity, quality and safety. These measures play an important role in protecting the interests of our national economy and enhancing its competitiveness while boosting consumer confidence in products traded in our markets.”

To meet the burgeoning trade requirements in the UAE, QCC has signed several collaboration agreements with public and private entities at the local and federal level to coordinate market surveillance activities and advance the development of quality infrastructure in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. QCC empowers regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. The Council also sets guidelines and benchmarks to verify that products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
