Ministry of Health & Prevention organizes life skills workshop for employees

UAE, June 12, 2017 - The Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP), represented by the Health Centers and Clinics Department, organized a training workshop on life skills, under the theme ‘Education and Training for the Prevention of Psychological and Physical Risks.’ The workshop was held at the Sharjah Training and development Center, and witnessed the attendance of Dr. Laila Al Jasmi, Deputy Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, in addition to a number of employees from the same department, the Human Resources Department, and the Customer Service Centre.
Dr. Hussein Abdel-Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry’s Health & Prevention Health Centers and Clinics Sector noted the importance of hosting training workshops recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), due to their role in stimulating the practice of occupational wellbeing in the working environment, and their role in promoting occupational health and safety. The workshop aimed to contribute towards the mental stability of the employees, helping them develop their life and social skills, in addition to instilling a culture of innovation in the work environment, while promoting a healthy lifestyle among employees, in a healthy and sustainable environment.
Fatima Al-Mazmi, a life skills expert, highlighted the importance of occupational wellbeing in the workplace, and its correlation with the physical and psychological health of employees, which in turn has a major impact on their levels of productivity and performance. Al Mazmi discussed self-management and self-esteem, confidence-building, and self-awareness skills such as knowing your rights, influences, values and attitudes, strengths and weaknesses, goal setting and self-evaluation. Al Mazmi also highlighted methods to facilitate learning new skills, overcoming fears, the impact that dependence has on one’s state of mind, and how all of these elements effect the productivity of the individual.
The employees expressed interest and interacted positively with the themes of the workshop. They also expressed in further developing their life skills, to enhance their levels of productivity and job wellbeing.
