Jiu-Jitsu black belt world champion, Xande Ribeiro believes the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® has contributed to becoming the lifeline that so many athletes in jiu-jitsu need. Thousands of jiu-jitsu athletes take part at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam®, not just because of the financial rewards, but the structure and high-class quality of the event.
“I am looking forward to the new season of the Grand Slam, it is a special tournament and growing into a ‘global-must-watch’ event for the combat sports community. I would like to say - the financial aspect of the Grand Slam is key, but the respect that every jiu-jitsu athlete deserves, they get at the Grand Slam.” Said Xande Ribeiro
“I believe people don't compete at the Grand Slam for the money, I mean it is a factor and it helps for many athletes, as there are costs involved like training, nutrition, travel but it is for the pride of an amazing event. That’s what we get from the Grand Slam, I feel like a superstar when I compete at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam” Said Xande Ribeiro
