UAE, May 28, 2017- The Ministry of Health & Prevention's (MOHAP) Department of Health Education and Promotion, won first place in the ‘Best Community Sport Initiative' competition, for its smart application, ‘Heroes of Health.' The competition was organized by the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, under the patronage of His Excellency (H.E.) Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and Chairman of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare.

Dr. Fadila Mohammed Sharif, Director of Health Education and Promotion Department at MOHAP, expressed her pride in the achievement that came as a result of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community in the UAE. Sharif noted that the achievement reflects the Ministry's efforts to implement sustainable programs, and that the ‘Heroes of Health' smart application supports the objectives of the National Agenda, to combat obesity in children by 2021.

Nouf Khamis, Deputy Director of Health Education and Promotion department, praised the efforts of the management team in supervising the preparation of the application and noted that ‘Heroes of Health,' is an interactive smart application that provides health information to children, helping those lead healthier lifestyles. The application educates children on health through a range of games. Children are also encouraged to lead healthier lifestyles and exercise regularly. The new smart application helps children make healthier choices when shopping for food, in addition to maintaining good hygiene to prevent disease. Khamis highlighted the importance of the achievement for the Best Community Sport Initiative, which aims to encourage all sectors to implement projects, initiatives and innovative programs, encouraging the community to exercise, and benefitting society as a whole.
