Ministry of Health & Prevention organizes workshop on counseling & mental health

UAE, May 21, 2017- The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), represented by the Hospitals Sector, organized a workshop focused on counseling and mental health at the Training and Development Center in Sharjah. The workshop was attended by Dr. Mona Al Kuwari, Director of the Specialized Healthcare Department, in addition to a number of general practitioners and nurses working in outpatient clinics in hospitals and primary healthcare centers. The session aimed to raise awareness about psychiatric patients and how to deal with them, while highlighting the behavioral characteristics of psychotic patients and the best methods for dealing with them.
Al Kuwari noted that the workshop was organized in adherence with the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen mental health services, rehabilitation and the support given to mental health patients, while working to further integrate them into society with a strategy in place that complies with the best international standards. This contributes to the development of the health sector and the overall happiness of the community. Al Kuwari highlighted the objectives of the workshop, including the element of mental health in health services, and how to best deal with common mental disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. The workshop also shed light on providing guidance and support through mental health services, while treating and dealing and communicating with mental health patients effectively and professionally.
The workshop included lectures on psychological illnesses and their symptoms, how to detect them, the most effective methods for dealing with them, and the most common types of mental disorders. The lectures also focused on various neurological and behavioral disorders such as depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. The event was organized in adherence with the best international practices to ensure the safety of patients and the happiness of the community.
