Dubai, UAE, 5 February 2017: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, celebrated ‘National Environment Day’ on 4th of February, in association with UAE companies to highlight environmental challenges such as global warming and climate change.
HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower said: “Our wise leadership has a far sighted vision to guarantee safe and healthy future for future generations. The 20th National Environment Day is held under the theme ‘Sustainable Production and Consumption’, and shows the UAE’s determination to achieve sustainable development by encouraging the individual and collective practices, and supporting innovations that help saving resources and encourage clean energy and renewable energy.”
“As a leader in the energy field, Empower has crucial role in supporting the country’s strategy on sustainable development and meet the objectives of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to transform Dubai into an international centre for clean energy by providing 7% of Dubai's total power output from clean resources by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050. To reach these objectives, we need to work at multiple levels, starting with reducing Carbon emissions, and conserving energy and water. At the same time we need to work on maximising the use of clean and renewable energy which help to move towards green economy. Empower as the world's leader company in the district cooling field, has the responsibility to promote latest technologies to achieve these goals," HE Bin Shafar continued.
Pushing toward green economy and using clean energy to achieve sustainable development is an essential part of UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021 to establish Dubai as a smart and sustainable city.
HE Ahmad bin Shafar concluded: "Achieving sustainable development takes a lot of efforts from individuals and organisations, starting with consolidating a culture of sustainability among the individuals and spreading awareness about environmental issues. Also, it is important to emphasise the practices that support the natural resources sustainability; and finally reaching the sustainable economy which balances between growth requirements and vital environmental concerns. The best way to meet all these objectives is collective work between individuals and organisations, and via innovations and initiatives that help attain sustainable development to guarantee healthier and better future for future generations.”
