DIFF's Children's Red Carpet Gala ‘Swallows and Amazons' Is an Adventure for the Whole Family

Emirates Airline Festival of Literature will team up with DIFF to bring the popular event ‘Great Adaptations: From Novel to Screen’ to film fans 

Dubai – November 16, 2016:  The enchanting new take on the beloved novel by Arthur Ransome, ‘Swallows and Amazons’ will be the red carpet gala at the Madinat Arena on Friday, 9th December at 2pm for the 13th Dubai International Film Festival’s Cinema for Children programme, leading a lineup of three special family films from December 7-14, 2016. 

Film fans will also have the opportunity to attend the ‘Great Adaptations: From Novel to Screen’ event in partnership with Emirates Airline Festival of Literature when Andrea Gibb, who wrote the ‘Swallows and Amazons’ screenplay and the film’s producer Nick Barton will delve into the creative process of adapting a novel to the screen. The event will run following the second screening on Saturday, December 10 and is scheduled to commence at 6pm at VOX, Mall of the Emirates. 
Directed by Philippa Lowthorpe with a brilliant British cast including Kelly Macdonald (Brave, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2), Andrew Scott (Spectre, Alice Through the Looking Glass) and Rafe Spall (The BFG, The Big Short), DIFF’s younger audiences will be delighted and enchanted by this wonderful tale for the whole family.

‘Swallows and Amazons’ tells the story of four children who dream of escaping the tedium of a summer holiday with their mother. When finally given permission to camp on their own on an island in the middle of a vast lake, they are overjoyed. But when they get there they discover they may not be alone... The battle for ownership of a lonely island teaches them the skills of survival, the value of friendship and the importance of holding your nerve. 

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Lake District, ‘Swallows and Amazons’ is a heartwarming adventure for all the family.
