Tense Play-Off at Las Colinas Decides Spots for Final Stage of European Tour Q-school

Strong field battle it out at European Tour Qualifying School 2nd Stage for sixth consecutive year at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club

Dubai, UAE, November 10, 2016:  Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, one of Europe's most acclaimed golfing destinations, played host to the European Tour Qualifying School 2nd Stage for a sixth time over the weekend – culminating in a tense final round where a play-off was needed to decide the golfers going into the Final Stage.

With the Troon-managed course in stunning condition and earning praise from the strong field on show, the battle at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club saw 16 players progress to the Final Stage of qualifying through the regulation 72 holes. These included overall winner Oscar Lengden from Sweden, former British Amateur Champion Bradley Neill and European Tour winner Maarten Lafeber.

Meanwhile, another two players – Englishman James Allan and Italian Andrea Maestroni – claimed the final spots of the 18 making their way into the Final Stage after holding their nerve in a play-off. Seeing off Bjorn Hellgren, Matthew Nixon and amateur David Boote, Essex golfer Allan birdied the second sudden death hole, whilst Maestroni birdied the fourth play-off hole to seal his place in the final.

Cristóbal Guerrero, Managing Director, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club was delighted with the praise the resort received following its hosting of the event for a sixth time.

“It's truly an honour to work with the European Tour and we're delighted with the feedback we've had from all the players, caddies and spectators,” said Guerrero. “As well as all the players who qualified for the Final Stage, we'd like to congratulate everyone that made the event truly memorable once again.”

Regarded as one of the best modern golf courses in Europe and as the best in Spain, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club's Par 71 18-hole layout has built a world-class reputation for its year-round Championship-ready conditioning. Designed for players of all levels by renowned architect Cabell B. Robinson, the golf course blends naturally into the surrounding landscape, running through valleys between the hills to deliver a truly captivating and unforgettable golfing experience for golfers of all abilities.

Located south of Alicante in 330 hectares of Mediterranean woodland, the resort has also become a leader in attracting international golf and leisure visitors, as well as second-home owners to the region since its opening in 2010.
