Dubai, UAE, May 29, 2016: The 3rd Postal Zone of Emirates Post Group – consisting of post-offices in Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain -- has reported a strong response from customers to the distribution of special ‘Watheq’ boxes under a campaign that was launched last year by the National Archives of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs.
Nearly 55 per cent of the boxes received by the 3rd Postal Zone from the National Archives Authority have been distributed at the 26 post offices in the 3rd postal zone. Out of a total of 1,512 Watheq Boxes received by the zone, 822 have been distributed so far.
Chief Commercial Officer of EPG, Mr. Ibrahim Bin Karam said: “Emirates Post Group is proud to support this project of great national importance. Through this initiative, future generations will have a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical heritage of the UAE. The staff at all our post offices is excited about being part of this major project. We strongly believe Watheq will boost loyalty and patriotism among the people of the UAE.”
The Watheq initiative empowers people to create their personal archives and preserve historical documents, records, artifacts and other precious possessions that are a great reservoir of information about life within UAE society. Watheq represents a national collaboration in which the entire society takes collective responsibility for preserving the memories of the motherland.
The special Watheqboxes are designed according to highest international standards of archiving. They are easy to open and close, storage-friendly and resistant to moisture and other external factors. Historical letters, photos, videos, memoranda, newspapers, books, marriage certificates, birth certificates and any other historical documentation can be stored in these boxes.
