Is There Any Kind Of Link between Laser Hair Removal and Cancer
Last Update: Tuesday, May 24, 2016 : 14:41 (+4GMT)
There have been a lot of rumors encompassing laser hair removal with people claiming laser hair removal can cause cancer. Is it true? Read on to know the surprising facts.
Laser hair removal in Abu Dhabi is significantly popular among women. For some women, this modern hair removing technique is worth the big tag price for silky smooth, hairless skin. There is no fixed cost for laser hair removal. It varies from person to person, depending upon the size of the area being treated, with a survey finding that average estimated cost of the treatment is around $200. Despite this hefty price, it is still the most popular and the most sought after cosmetic procedure in the UAE.
Nevertheless, most people hesitate from opting for the procedure, because they doubt the safety of this fuzz-zapping procedure. Recently there have been rumors that laser hair removal can cause cancer. But you should know that there is no reality in it! Lasers are safe and effective with approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Many patients show up with concerns about the safety of radiations used for hair removal, as they ask, “Is there any kind of link between laser hair removal and cancer?” Radiations that are most dangerous and can be associated with life threatening conditions like cancer include X-rays and gamma rays.
These high frequency ionizing radiations are primarily obtained from radon gas, but they can be synthetic as well, for example radiations emitting from nuclear plants, or those used for CT scan and x-ray imaging of internal organs of body. When these ionizing radiations pass through human body, they cause direct damage to the cell’s DNA, which can potentially cause cancer.
As far as laser beams are concerned, they are comprised of non-ionizing radiations but are equally powerful as the ionizing radiations. The pulses are designed specially to destroy hair follicles by heating them.
“The light energy from these lasers actually remains superficially, it remains at the level of the skin,” Dr. Whitney Bowe, a dermatologist in New York City said while speaking to FoxNews.com. “These lasers don’t cause DNA damage and they don’t cause DNA mutations.”
Some women have concerns about treating sensitive areas such as chest or bikini line with lasers. But Dr. Konstantin Zakashansky, a gynecologic oncologist at The Mount Sinai Hospital says it is perfectly safe to treat sensitive areas as well.
“The light used does not penetrate beyond the depths of the hair follicle and internal organs are in no way affected, nor is fertility,” Dr. Konstantin Zakashansky said.
Bottom line: Having all that said, laser hair removal is the only permanent hair reduction procedure with highest proportion of satisfied users. As of now, no research has found any link between laser hair removal and cancer. So, you can safely zap off unwanted fur on your body with laser hair removal Abu Dhabi treatment.
