Etihad ESCO signs MoU with Land Department to explore energy efficiency opportunities

Dubai, UAE, 18 May 2016: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of Etihad Energy Service Company (Etihad ESCO), and HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land Department, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore new opportunities and identify standards of energy conservation, to achieve financial savings and energy efficiency across all Dubai Land’s operations. This supports the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to achieve the sustainable development of the UAE. It also supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to establish Dubai’s position as a global hub for clean energy and energy efficiency.
Signing the MoU was attended by Majida Ali Rashid, Assistant Director General of Dubai Land Department, Waleed Salman, Vice Chairman of Etihad Esco, Stephane Le Gentil, CEO of Etihad Esco, Ali Al Jassim, COO of Etihad ESCO, Ibrahim Al-Zu'bi, Senior Adviser of Sustainability, Mohammed Al Badwawi, Director of Partnerships, and Saeed Al Suwaidi, Manager of Local Partnerships and Public Relations at Dubai Land Department.
“The MoU supports the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance the sustainable development in Dubai. It also supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to transform Dubai into an international hub for clean energy and green economy. It will contribute to achieving Dubai’s vision to become the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world,” said Al Tayer.
“The MoU defines the framework and develop cooperation between the two sides, enabling Etihad ESCO to explore opportunities to achieve the highest levels of efficiency to reduce energy use and lower costs across all of Dubai Land Department’s operations. Etihad ESCO, the leading project by DEWA, will develop a portfolio of solutions and opportunities to reduce energy use in all the projects approved by Dubai Land Department in relation to energy efficiency in Dubai,” Added Al Tayer.
“The project with Dubai Land Department is one of the applications of the Demand Side Management strategy to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030. The strategy features 9 programmes to manage energy demand. These include green building regulations, retrofitting existing buildings, district cooling, wastewater reuse, laws and standards to raise efficiency, energy-efficient street-lighting, and Shams Dubai,” concluded Al Tayer.

This partnership reflects our commitment to excellence in our operations. The effective solutions offered by this partnership will ensure that we meet these objectives, making us a role model for our customers for adopting and applying the highest green building standards,” said Bin Mejren.
