UAE, April 28, 2016- A high-level Singaporean delegation recently visited the offices of the Supreme Legislation Committee (SLC) as part of its ongoing move to identify and learn more about the best practices being adopted in the efforts to further develop the legislative process. The group, which was led by H.E. Cheong Ming Foong, Consul General to the Republic of Singapore in Dubai, was welcomed by H.E. Ahmed Bin Meshar, Secretary General, SLC. During the visit, SLC' Secretary General highlighted the many efforts and achievements made by the Committee in its move to reinforce the country's legal system. In response, Consul General Foong lauded the SLC for establishing the rule of law and legitimacy based on the solid foundations of strong leadership, excellence and professionalism. 

The Singaporean delegation were given a briefing on the plans and initiatives currently being implemented by the SLC, which are primarily aimed towards advancing human development, smart transformation, stimulating creativity and innovation, improving legal research, enriching knowledge and raising the legislative control level in order to achieve a legal system that is able to keep up with developments and advancements of Dubai. Also discussed were the achievements gained from smart transformation, which covered a review of the features of the smart application that enhances the SLC's contribution to accelerate the pace of transforming Dubai into one of the world's smartest cities.

Secretary General, Ahmed Bin Meshar expressed the SLC's commitment to further consolidate its ties between Dubai and Singapore--pointing out that it is a perfect opportunity to open up new channels for exchanging best practices and exploring new horizons to benefit from successful experiences in improving the legislative and legal system of both sides. He explained that the bilateral meeting complements the successful visit of an SLC delegation to Singapore where they learned more about the country's best legislative practices used to help develop the legal system. Bin Meshar also affirmed the SLC continuing efforts to let the international community know about Dubai's pioneering achievements to create an integrated legislative system that supports the strategic vision of Dubai to become one of the most developed countries in the world by 2021.

H.E. Cheong Ming Foong, Consul General to the Republic of Singapore in Dubai commended the SLC and its move to lay strong foundations and build strong relationships with the global legislative community while also facilitating knowledge transfer and adopt best practices that have proved to be a great success in creating an integrated legal framework that provides a solid platform for economic and social sustainable upswing. He added that the quality of the initiatives under SLC will undoubtedly be an important addition to the march of leadership that aims to position Dubai as a leading international hub of legal excellence.

“Dubai and Singapore have solid and strategic ties and they share common denominators, most notably its unprecedented development, which will pave the way to reach a new level of excellence in all fields. We are confident that the Supreme Legislation Committee will provide valuable contributions in terms of strengthening legislative and legal cooperation between Dubai and Singapore to serve the aspirations of both sides,” concluded Foong.
