The workshop aimed to introduce community members of all ages to satellite uses in the field of remote sensing. The workshop presented several examples and a discussion on how to use remote sensing, while highlighting its benefits in the space sector.
Al Mansoori said: “The Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition is a global platform to exchange, discuss and identify best practices. It also offers an opportunity for direct dialogue with members of the public to introduce them to the latest smart services provided by UAE Government departments."
Commenting on the information provided in the remote sensing workshop, Al Mansoori explained: “Through this workshop we focused on informing the public about the importance of remote sensing satellites and their vital role in the continual monitoring of the Earth’s surface and resources. We have shed light on the UAE’s efforts in this sector and the objectives of MBRSC too, which aim to develop a new generation of Emirati scientists and engineers specialised in the satellite industry, and to develop smart applications that benefit the service departments in society.”
The workshop also featured a presentation on the latest applications developed at MBRSC, such as an application to extract the coastline from satellite images, Super Resolution Tool for DubaiSat-2, Change Detection Application, and the SAFIY Project, among others. The workshop showcased the methods used for preparing 3D satellite images from DubaiSat-2, while giving simplified practical examples for the attendees.
It also addressed the analytical studies MBRSC conducts and provides periodically to governmental departments and institutions. Several examples of these studies were presented to highlight their role in the continuous detection of the changes the environment and the infrastructure are undergoing.
The SAFIY Project is a smart application for feature extraction and 3D modelling by using high-resolution satellite imagery. The project aims to develop mapping applications that use DubaiSat-2 and Deimos-2 high-resolution optical data to detect changes in vegetation, water, road networks and buildings.
