Dubai, UAE, April 11, 2016 – HID Global®, a worldwide leader in secure identity solutions, today announced it has been selected by Vodafone Italy to modernize its physical access control system by providing a group of employees a convenient and easy-to-use mobile access solution across multiple sites and applications at the Vodafone Village in Milan. Using HID Mobile Access® supports Vodafone Italy's strategy to implement a revolutionary way to use smartphones for access control. The solution provides an enhanced user experience for employees, especially since they are able to use their phones for multiple applications, such as for time and attendance as well as purchases at vending machines.
Headquartered in Milan, Vodafone Italy is a fully-owned subsidiary of Vodafone Group plc. and has approximately 7,600 employees, 26 million mobile customers and 2.3 million customers using fixed lines. Vodafone Italy is in its first phase of deployment, with the initial plan to roll out of 8,000 mobile credentials.
“As a result of deploying HID Global’s ground breaking solution, Vodafone employees involved in the pilot at our Village are providing us very interesting and positive feedback,” said Stefano Bargellini, Safety, Security and Facilities Director with Vodafone Italy. “They are finding it far more convenient when visiting different sites in the Vodafone Village and using multiple applications. It is also very simple for us to issue, manage and revoke Mobile IDs to smartphones, which saves administration time and money.”
HID Global partnered with Digitronica IT, an expert in software and security integration, and with Honeywell Building Solutions (HBS) to deploy the physical access control solution.
“HID Global’s mobile access solution was easy to deploy and to integrate into an existing credentials management platform. The readers are simple to configure and support different applications, which made it possible for us to provide Vodafone Italy with the core management system and identity management solution very quickly,” said Massimo Beccherle, Sales Director, Digitronica IT.
“With smartphones becoming more business-critical each day, HID Mobile Access addresses the need to leverage the power of mobile to significantly enhance and streamline the user experience,” said Harm Radstaak, Vice President and Managing Director of Physical Access Control with HID Global. “The Vodafone pilot validates the escalating market interest in a mobile access control model that combines greater convenience with unprecedented security in a rapidly growing mobile-first world.
HID Global’s mobile access solution with multi-technology iCLASS SE® readers also enabled Vodafone to retain interoperability with legacy card technologies, making it possible for the company to move users to mobile access at their own pace.
