Chevron Readers' Cup Champions Announced

Annual Literary Competition at Emirates Airline Festival of Literature 2016 Promotes Year of Reading
Dubai, 21 March, 2016: The fifth edition of the Chevron Readers’ Cup came to a decisive finale at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature 2016. The closely contested competition featured 317 teams from 90 schools in the Gulf during the preliminary rounds, with 16 teams in each category proceeding to the finals.
The competition is held in Arabic and English in two age groups – Primary and Secondary. Teams compete by answering questions relating to books selected by the Festival. The winning teams received trophies and tokens from Bookworm and Buzoor.
2016’s Chevron Readers’ Cup was another step by the Festival to promote the Year of Reading, declared by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
For the last four years, Chevron’s team have been active supporters of the competition. Christopher Bradley, Chevron’s Country Chairman for UAE, said: ‘The Chevron Readers’ Cup has been gaining greater interest with each passing year, and it’s the enthusiasm that makes us come back every time. One of our company’s aims, which align with the goals of the Festival, has been to increase students’ love for reading and literature, and this competition proves that we are heading in the right direction.’
The winners in the Arabic Primary category were:
1. Victoria International School of Sharjah – Team B
2. Mawakeb School – Barsha – Team Flowers
3. The Apple International School
In the Secondary category, the winners were:
1. Mawakeb School – Garhoud – Team A
2. Mawakeb School – Barsha – Team A (Girls)
3. Providence English Private School - Sharjah
The winners in the English Primary category were:
1. Deira Private School – Team 1
2. Emirates International School – Team B
3. Deira International School – Year 5
In the Secondary category, the winners were:
1. Cambridge International School – Team C
2. Private International English School, Abu Dhabi – Team Book Bulls
3. St. Mary’s Catholic High School
