Dubai Culture's Stand at “Dubai Design Days” Inspires Arish in a Contemporary Representation

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: 16 March, 2015: Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, commissioned a contemporary representation traditional Arish for its stand participating at “Dubai Design Days”. The Design expresses the theme of welded natures, High-Tech Arish. Taking heritage out of the village, connecting the rich past with the existing time.
The stand was designed by Fortune Penniman, an architect based in Dubai and currently working research and design projects in the Gulf Region. He was one of the finalist of Urban Commissions design competition, an initiative launched by Dubai Culture and Dubai Design District aiming to provide emerging talented artists with the opportunity to integrate with the creative society of the UAE.
Noora Al Jameaa, Senior Project Manager at Dubai Arts and Culture (Dubai Culture) said: “Dubai Culture’s vision aims to nurture young and emerging artists and we are looking to support the best talents in design industry located in Dubai and the UAE. Through providing such platforms, we are looking to establish solid foundations for the comprehensive culture and art scene in the Emirate of Dubai.”
Dubai Culture’s booth takes inspiration from Japanese tea pavilions, spaces that are elementary shapes, Arish has incredible potential as a material of contemporary design.
Dubai Design Days is a flagship event of Dubai Art Season, organized under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).
The umbrella arts initiative by Dubai Culture plays a critical role in celebrating regional and international design, while providing both established and existing designers a credible platform to display their work and unparalleled opportunities for growth.
Coincides with Dubai Design Days, Dubai Culture organizes SIKKA Art Fair, an artist-led fair of commissioned works by Emirati, UAE and GCC-based artists.
