1.    Colours and lighting rule the hue 
Make your dishes pop out of your Instagram feed by placing contrasting or complementary colours next to each other, making the hues look extra vibrant and appealing. Don’t forget that automatic flash will be far too bright so use natural light where you can.  

2.    Play with your angles 
To capture the detail, but also create a far more interesting shot, try zooming in really close to your food subject. Play with different angles such as shooting directly from above in the ‘flat layout’ Instagram style, or from the side. 

3.    Tell a Story 
It’s fun to get snap happy as you enjoy a food festival or indulgent meal for example, but what is your shot trying to say? Capturing a fantastic food moment, a particular occasion can say more with food not words. Get creative with how you tell the story and make your shot even more interesting. The cherry on top is choosing your hashtag, which is great for building your fan base, collating your images together and for people to find your photos, but don’t use too many.
