Swarovski & United Nations Foundation host International Women’s Day Luncheon and Debut New Bracelets in support of United Nations Women
Paris, March 3, 2016
WHAT:
Swarovski, UN Women and the UN Foundation organized an exclusive luncheon at the Residence of the Ambassador of the United States in Paris, hosted by Her Excellency Jane D. Hartley (Ambassador of the United States of America), Kathy Calvin (President and CEO of the UN Foundation) and Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski.
This event celebrated International Women’s Day and the strides that have been made on the path to gender equality and safety. In March 2015, at the UN Commission on the Status of Women 2015 session, Swarovski pledged to partner with the UN Women’s Safe Cities Global Initiative.
The International Women’s Day luncheon also highlighted innovative solutions to promote action by world leaders and everyday citizens alike to promote female empowerment. A number of high-level individuals from governments, international organizations, businesses, and civil society were in attendance. All were asked to come wearing a touch of yellow – the official color of International Women’s Day.
The cocktail reception, followed by a seated luncheon on Thursday featured a panel discussion around equality and safety for all. The panel was moderated by Daniela Ligiero, Vice President on Women Issues at the UN Foundation, and featured Nadja Swarovski, Kathy Calvin, and also Kristin Hetle, Director of Strategic Partnerships Division of UN Women, as well as actor Loic Corbery, who represented the solidarity campaign for gender equality initiated by UN Women, HeforShe. The luncheon ended with words from Charlotte Groppo, a youth advocate from the Comité National France ONU Femmes.
The event was also the occasion to present the new Spring/Summer 2016 line of Atelier Swarovski bracelets created in collaboration with UN Women to support the Safe Cities Global Initiative campaign, which protects women from sexual violence around the world.
WHY:
In March 2014 Swarovski became a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a result of collaboration between the UNGC and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women). As a signatory to the WEPs, Swarovski demonstrates its commitment to promoting equal opportunities and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.
Swarovski is a global company with a large female work force and a mainly female customer base, so the empowerment of women is a significant topic for the crystal house, which is engaged in numerous activities that promote women’s rights. The company aims to remain true to the vision of its founder, Daniel Swarovski – to run a company that has the wellbeing of all employees, society and the environment at its heart.
As part of this effort, Atelier Swarovski has launched an exclusive charity bracelet to be sold in selected Swarovski stores across the globe. By donating 30% of the RRP from every sale to UN Women, Atelier Swarovski brings its support to the initiative, which is the first-ever global program to develop and implement tools, policies and approaches on the prevention of harassment and violence against women and girls.
