Yas Marina Circuit’s drag strip again thunders to the sound of street machines as the UAE’s best urban racing series returns
Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, January 30, 2016: It’s raw, gritty, ultra-competitive, and very very fast - and it’s back. The no holds barred world of street racing has lit up the drag strip at Yas Marina Circuit (YMC) for more wheel-spinning, rubber burning action.
Yas Super Street Challenge made a triumphant return this weekend to build on last year’s success with a bigger field and tougher competition.
The UAE’s best urban racers put their street racing machines to the ultimate test in the first round of 2016 on 28thand 29thJanuary.
More than a hundred racers and their souped-up machines filled the pit garages ready to blow their rivals into the weeds on YMC’s purpose-built drag strip in five separate categories: ‘4x4 Super Street SUV’; ‘Index 11.5’; ‘Index 10.5’; ‘Super Street’ and ‘Super Street – Open Category’.
“At Yas Marina Circuit, we have many forms of racing and Yas Super Street Challenge is motorsports in its rawest form,” said Ali Al Beshr, Yas Marina Circuit’s Head of Sporting.
“For everyone involved, it’s a test of skill and speed, and a chance to claim bragging rights against your rivals. There’s an unbelievably competitive atmosphere in the garages"
“This year we’ve got a bigger field and some of the meanest machines in the country, the action will be great, we can’t wait for it to start,” said Ali Al Beshr, Yas Marina Circuit’s Head of Sporting.
Yas Super Street Challenge offers a professional racing environment for grassroots level prices, and with a raft of cash prizes again up for grabs, this season promises to be even more exciting than last year’s. The cost of entry is only 400 AED per driver, and with access to the pit lane for support crews costing only 100 AED, this season’s experience is not only unique, but affordable too.
Those that prove quickest off the line can win a range of cash prizes, with 5,000 AED going to those in third place, 10,000 AED for second, and 15,000 AED for first.
Those whom prefer to cheer from the grandstand are also welcome and entry is priced at only 50 AED, dropping to only 30 AED for students with a valid student ID. The on-track excitement will be complemented by a range of on-site food and beverage options to choose from, and music
For 250 AED, VIP tickets are also available now, providing access to VIP parking as well as the best viewing seats in the house, the drag paddock area.
