Dulsco instills recycling concepts in budding minds to make a difference at the grass root level
Dubai, December 1st, 2015: Dulsco, a regional pioneer in waste management services and human resource solutions, in association with Dubai Municipality, held a recycling drive along with an ‘art-from-waste’ contest at Zabeel Park with students and residents from across Dubai. The campaign was themed ‘Recycle Plastic, Protect the Earth’ and the drive was part of the ‘Clean-up-the-World’ campaign. Over 400 people comprising of children and parents took part in this event.
Dubai Municipality's patronage of the annual voluntary ‘Clean-up-the-World’ campaign signifies its strong commitment to creating awareness within the community. By adopting such unique activities and events aimed at protecting the environment, Dubai Municipality aims at instilling a sense of collective responsibility in the society towards a safe and sound environment.
A plastic art competition, aimed at creativity through ‘art out of waste’, was open to teams from schools, colleges, families and general public. The objective was to educate young minds to reuse plastic and not treat it as pure waste. Each team was given a bag of recycled plastic bottles along with decorative materials to create their final piece of art. Representatives from Dubai Municipality and Dulsco judged the competition. Three winners were given prizes that included eco-friendly gifts. Several avid recyclers brought in recyclables from their homes and took part in the recycling drive. The Recycle to Regain game was a huge hit among children, wherein they had to identify general waste and recyclables. Apart from this, there was a photo booth at the event where all visitors took photos or selfies.
“One of the main objectives of this campaign is to get to the grass root level by educating the students in a practical way on waste management. The intention behind this drive is to create awareness amongst students and residents of Dubai on the importance of recycling plastic and its positive impact in protecting the earth. The onus lies with corporates like us, as well as schools, who can encourage these young minds to initiate such waste and recycling initiatives. We are extremely pleased to have tied up with Dubai Municipality in the effort to conserve the environment. Students and residents will gain an in-depth understanding of waste segregation at source during this drive and this would bolster their eagerness to participate in future green campaigns,” said S. Madhumohan, Director Waste Management, Dulsco.
Students at the campaign were encouraged to actively participate and play an important role in waste reduction and proper recycling of unavoidable waste through the motto of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’. Through this campaign, Dulsco aims to inculcate and sustain a change in the attitude of children and adults towards reducing waste and the significance of recycling.
‘Clean-up-the-World’ campaign has played a pivotal role in the promotion of environment protection, sustainable waste management and promoting voluntary work in the Emirate.
