The launch of the new unit coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign which is observed worldwide in October every year.
Under the supervision and expertise of experienced doctors, the Breast Care unit is equipped to handle all kind of treatments and surgeries on breasts, including mammography, and breast reconstructive surgery as well as implants – particularly for patients who have had all or part of breasts removed due to malignancy, besides other medical procedures. This facility is a first-of-a-kind across the Middle East.
The Breast Care unit is also equipped with modern mammography screening & a fully-equipped diagnosis department to promote early detection and treatment. Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women; one out of every eight women develop breast cancer and about 1.1 million women across the world are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Breast cancer is also one of the most common cancers among UAE female population. Recent studies show the incidence of breast cancer has risen by 20 per cent over the past six years in the country.
Dr. Rami Hamed, renowned spinal and orthopedic surgeon and founding director of DRHC, said: “The DRHC Breast Care Unit is a big step forward in our specializations. While the unit is equipped to handle all kinds of medical conditions associated with breast, it will also go a long way in the nation’s fight against the scourge of breast cancer. The unit is fully equipped with the latest mammogram screening and set to become a centre of excellence for breast cancer diagnosis & treatment. The new facility will not only save lives but also help alleviate the concerns of women during diagnosis, making the process quicker, easier and convenient.”
Mammography is particularly important in the detection of Breast Cancer, as it can detect cancers which are too small to be felt by physical examination. Research has shown that routine mammography detects 40 per cent of cancers not found by physical examination, thus reducing the death rate from breast cancer by 30 per cent.
Dr. Rami added: “To coincide with the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign in October, we aim to conduct drive to promote early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. We encourage regular screening and mammography after the age of 40 to minimize risks and help save more lives. It is our duty to provide our community with the fastest and the most efficient route to breast cancer diagnosis and treatments."
The DRHC is a one-stop destination for patients for various medical conditions and offers truly world class facilities. DRHC is committed to investment in state of the art technology, which makes it easier for medical experts to ensure an excellent patient outcome.
